MIREX 2024 Participant Agreement and Acknowledgment for Team Submissions

Each of the undersigned participants in the MIREX 2024 (the “Competition”) acknowledges and agrees to the following terms and conditions for team submissions. Each participant will be referred to as a “Participant” or “Team Member,” and collectively they will be referred to as a “Team.” The “future MIREX” team organizes the competition, and the organizers will be referred to as “Organizers.”

A. Team Submissions

The Team will submit models, software, datasets, or any other work product developed by the Team (referred to collectively as "Team Submission"). All Team Submissions must be created by Team Members or sourced from public domain content. The Team must have rights to all materials used.

Team Submissions should not contain any third-party materials without proper authorization and must not contain illegal or offensive content. Each Participant is responsible for ensuring that their submission is free from viruses or other harmful code that could affect the competition platform.

The Team Submission will not disclose any private or personal information without explicit consent. Participants must comply with the rules and refrain from modifying or reverse-engineering the competition platform or its systems.

B. Ownership and Licensing

Team Participants are responsible for agreeing as to ownership of any intellectual property contained in the Team Submission, whether jointly or individually created by Team Members.

Team Submissions will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. Organizers will not be responsible for protecting intellectual property rights, nor will they assume liability for any claims or disputes over intellectual property rights.

If the content of the Team Submission is subject to protection under intellectual property laws, Participants must secure such protection prior to submission. The Organizers will not assist with or assume responsibility for the protection of intellectual property in Team Submissions. By submitting work to the Competition, each Participant automatically grants the Organizers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display the Team Submission for the purposes of research, education, and promotion of the Competition.

If a Team Submission wins the competition, the Team is required to open-source their submission under the Apache 2.0 License and provide a public GitHub repository. This repository must contain the code, models, data preprocessing/post-processing methods, and documentation sufficient to reproduce the results. The Organizers must be able to verify and reproduce the results based on the code and resources provided in the repository.

C. Data Usage

Any datasets provided by the Organizers must be used solely for competition purposes or personal experimentation.

Participants must not use the datasets for commercial purposes or in unauthorized applications.

Any published research or materials that make use of the datasets must reference the competition website and the Organizers.

Participants agree not to use the dataset for any purpose that could potentially identify individuals.

D. Governing Law

This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the state or country where the Organizers are based. Participants agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the Organizers for any disputes arising from this Agreement.

E. Data Privacy

Participants' personal information will not be sold or shared with third parties without permission. Organizers may retain information for competition updates and notifications.

F. Liability

Participants assume all responsibility for their submissions and agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Organizers for any claims, damages, or legal actions that arise from participation in the competition.
